For those of you who have been trying todiscount duvet covers then you probably know how expensive it is to make such a purchase. Well the next best option is to just do it yourself. Below I share a few insights on how you can do this.

As a starter the outcome may not be the best quality like the typical duvet cover sets you find in stores but depending on how fast you catch on it can be something to be proud of. The first hurdle you are probably going to encounter is that of making the perfect insertion point i.e. where the sheets are inserted. the problem may be with the sewing at the top where you would have your closures.

The best way to sort this out is by being well organised. Start by finding all the sheets you will need. Go for a material that you absolutely adore – For instance if you interested in velvet duvet covers then I suggest you look for the relevant material. Before you think about folding the top sides you must first pin the bottom and side.

Now, you will have to make buttonholes at the top, right where the two sheet ends join together, and use buttons to close. You can also use ribbons if you like. If the sheet is longer than the quilt then fold it down on one side – about 12 inches. You will then need to stitch it up on the sides such that it looks like an envelope closure.

Now for the closures you can also insert a zipper, snap tape, snaps or Velcro if you are looking for something stiff. My best option is nylon zippers. This is because they make it easy for me to dress up the bed.
