When it is time for your windows to be cleaned, a large majority of the times people pick up phonebooks or go online to find a company.

And unfortunately, most people just choose whoever they see first.  Well I would like to offer some advice on how to choose a good window cleaning company.  This is going to be advice coming from my years of experience as a San Diego Window cleaning company.

Now you may be thinking, what’s the big deal when hiring a window washing company.Well first off, there is going to be a lot of companies who hire anybody to clean windows for them.  They do this without a background check.Well I hope you realize, these same people will have access to your home. With that being the case, would you not want to ensure that the company you are dealing with is reputable. It not only could be the difference in a good cleaning job, but it could also mean the difference of items somehow getting lost or stolen from your home.

So what is there to do to find a good company?Well to start, you check to see if the employees are professional, clean, and uniformed.  If they are not, this could be a sign of a company that goes through new employees every week without much screening.

Next thing you want to do is to check to see if the company is bonded and insured.  Accidents can happen, and if they do, you want to be protected as much as possible.

Third, do they use professional tools. This helps you in seeing if a company is professional and does good quality work.

Fourth, check and see the length of time they have been in business.  Like anything, longevity speaks volumes and shows you that you are working with a reputable company.

Finally, you will want to have them provide you past references of past clients.Nothing provides better validation or speaks louder on the quality of work that a company can do than previous customers.  This will allow you to see how well they have performed in the past.

There you have it.  Some quick tips you can use to find the best window cleaning company around.

At first glance, window cleaning seems easy enough of a job to do.  Ask any teenager to wash your windows, even for pay, and they will jump at the opportunity. The challenge however, is after they do it once, they will be telling you that they will never do that again. Now the challenge when cleaning the windows is not the actual work involved, it’s how and when you do it, and what tools you are going to use.  Take it from my years as a San Diego Window cleaning company, if you want someone to enjoy cleaning your windows, or if you want to do it yourself, keep some of these tips below in mind.

If your washing your windows in direct sunlight, you will start to realize that this will cause unsightly streaks that never seem to go away no matter how much you clean them! It’s very frustrating, but knowing something as simple as when to wash them like when the sun passes and is not on the windows, or when the sun is so hot, can save you from a lot frustration.

Some San Diego window washing tips that take the frustration and hassle out of window cleaning are:

The way you hold the squeegee matters!

When holding the squeegee, make sure you’re angling it in the direction of the water flow. If the water is flowing down towards your feet, pull the squeegee either sideways allowing the water being squeegeed to flow down to the part you haven’t hit yet. For example, if you are on the roof and the down angle is above you, squeegee forward so you can cause the water to flow to the part not yet squeegeed. If you find yourself working against the flow of water, this will cause the water to build up and it will flow out of the sides and that will make streaks.

The wiping of the blade is important!

Some people are going to try to clean the whole window without wiping the blade until the very end. This never has worked well and it will cause a streak by the water that is left on the blade. Every time you try to get that streak (which in essence is two times in the same spot) you will make another streak. You can avoid this problem by just wiping the blade after each strokeand have the windows washed much faster without wasted steps that you have to go back on.

Overlap the streaks

After every stroke, make the next stroke overlap (about an inch into the dry area) and make your next stroke. If you are pointing the squeegee to make the water fall downward to the part of the window that is wet and you are drying the blade after every stroke, you won’t make
an additional streak that you have to go back over. Never squeegee right where the line is, this can make a splash into the dry area and is definitely counter productive.

Use a lot of water

If you are afraid to use a lot of water, you will not have an easy time trying to make smooth strokes with the squeegee. be liberal with your water and always when possible use sideways strokes where the water drips down towards the wet part of the glass.

So there you have it.  Some easy to apply San Diego window cleaning tips for all you do it your selfers.Follow the steps outlined here and you will be very pleased with how your windows look.

Ahh, spring time is here, well okay, I guess living in San Diego it seems like it is always beautiful spring time weather.  What can I say?

Being the owner of a San Diego window cleaning company has it advantages.  But don’t think that just because the weather is perfect that it is impossible to have dirty windows.

As a matter of fact, because of the beautiful weather, being San Diegans, we take it for granted and assume our windows can’t ever get dirty.  Not so.

Now before we begin, let’s get one thing straight.  The window cleaning tips I give you are not just for Southern Californians.  No, these tips can be used and applied no matter where you find yourself here on earth.

Ready for the tips?  Then let’s go.

Can you guess what the main problem is when trying to clean windows?  Those ugly streaks.  We wake up one day feeling great, believing we can take on the world.  So what do we want to take on?  We want to take on our windows.

But wait just one minute.  Before you even think about taking on such a big job as cleaning your windows, and I’m not saying you can’t, let’s get the procedure right.  And when you do, you will see how much easier it makes this job.

Ready for the how to?  Here goes lickity split.

First, make sure you have the right equipment.  This isn’t like you are cleaning you wonderful local family room glass table.  No this is glass that has been beaten up by the wind, rain, dust, birds, insects, doesn’t matter what part of the country you are in.

So what is the right equipment?  Well it surely isn’t windex and paper towels.  Nope, all you need to do the job right is a squeegee a spray bottle, and then paper towels.

Gather these simple tools.  Use them the right way, and watch your day of window cleaning go as smooth as possible.

Okay, so you have those 3 tools, now what?  Well you are missing one last ingredient.  You are going to need something for that spray bottle.  And what you may ask is this secret ingredient?  It comes in 2 parts.  Ready?  The secret sauce is a teaspoon of dish washing liquid and 2 gallons of water.  Simple, but that is all you will need.  You put all these things together and you will have streak free windows in no time.

One final thing I forgot to mention, and don’t hate me for this.  You are going to have to add a lot of elbow grease.

So even though you started the day rarin’ to go and ready to knock out all those windows, by the third or fourth window, you might start to run a little low on that elbow grease.

Well when you do, don’t forget where you got the advice.  Your wonderful local San Diego window washing company, who won’t mind adding some elbow grease.

Till next time, happy cleaning.
