We just moved into a new rental house. I want to take off the showerhead and replace it with my own – which shouldn’t be difficult. However, the shower head doesn’t have any type of nut on it that can be unscrewed to remove the nozzle. It seems like the supply pipe runs straight to the nozzle with no way of removing it. Any advice? Can i saw off the pipe right above the nozzle and add an attachment that will allow me to connect my own nozzle? Will I have to remove the tile to unscrew the neck from the supply pipe?
Answer:
The entire pipe is screwed into the water supply line. Take a pair of channel locks and unscrew the pipe from inside the wall. You will have to get a new pipe at the hardware store with threads on both ends. That way you can connect your own shower head. Use teflon tape on both threads at the end of the new pipe to prevent leakage. There should be caulk around the pipe. Remove the caulk and you should be able to turn the pipe without damaging the tile. They had to make a hole in the tile to get the pipe through.
