Question: Does anyone else feel this way???
Has anyone noticed that over the past 12 years of NASCAR, the races have become longer, the rules seem to have taken the fun out of the sport?

My parents have been NASCAR fans since 1959, and my brothers and sisters and I were raised on watching the races, we’ve traveled to watch them, we’ve sold cars to by tickets. But what none of us like is the fact that all the fun seems to have been drained from the sport. All the “NEW IMPROVEMENTS” and rules have made the sport into something (imo) that is all about $ $ $ $ and not back home fun!
Granted I understand that the $ and the sponsors are what makes the NASCAR world go round, but what about what the fans themselves want to see. I dont know about you but I’d rather watch short track races over the super speedways. The longer they are the worse they are getting.

so what kinds of complaints do you have about the “NEW AND IMPROVED” NASCAR?
Do you also agree that the way that NASCAR awards penilties to drivers, teams, and owners can be slightly over exagerated and rediculous?

i don’t mind watching a long race. the thing i don’t like is that Nascar seems to just create rules as they go along. i like the COT cars, but I don’t like that black wing that all the COT cars have. those black wings seem to slow those cars down. i say keep the safety improvements, just get rid of that wing, and go back to using those fins. you all call those things spoilers, i call them wings (COT), and fins (the old spoilers).

I don’t like the Chase. I think the champion should be determined by the standings for the whole season not a 10 race shoot-out.

The new cars are made to be much safer for the drivers, and they haven proven to be effective in that respect. NASCAR has a bad habit of “interpreting” the rules and the “grey” areas as they desire at the moment. That really sux! I still love NASCAR, no matter what changes have transpired. I’m not crazy about the chase either, but what are ya gonna do? NASCAR is NASCAR, and I LOVE IT!

I have been a fan for as long as you have, and I agree…
The focus has been taken away from racing, and directed to other places..
Five hundred miles was done in under three hours, with maybe three cautions.. Now it’s an all day thing, with nine, ten cautions, or more..
The fuel cells are smaller, so more pit stops are needed, and somebody
thinks they are more important than the race (they are when they are the race, not the rest of the time)…
There seem to be more “pauses” in the race than an NFL game, and it’s getting worse..
Somebody needs to explain to Brian France that race fans need to see a car cross a finish line.. This green, white checker, end the race in the middle of a lap thing is stupid.. Not racing to the yellow is safer, but so is staying away from the race track…
Gathering the cars behind the pace car before opening the pits is fair, but racing isn’t fair.. The lucky dog rule is stupid, and often can keep a fast car from getting a lap back..
I wish that other types of racing were more accessible so I can go back to the thing I enjoy..
You sound like you were around long enough to remember the Can-Am series.. It would be great if that were still around, no rules..
Racing should not have rules.. Just a bunch of cars, and a finish line..

what they need to do is stick to the rules “with a blindfold” and enforce them equally .. not change them as they see fit
the reason for them seeming longer is the later start times //

I like the chase format, but the new cars SUCK! It seems that a driver like Kyle Busch and just throw it around and it’ll stick, where he’d be up in the first 5 rows years ago if he tried to run the old cars like that. It think they take a lot of the give and take out of the racing.
I’ve only been a fan for about 6-7 years, but I sure don’t like what I’ve seen in the last few years. It certainly isn’t as exciting and fun as when I first started watching………

  • thanks to our brave troops,:

yes all the new cars the new rules don;t make it as exciting as it used to be
i would rather watch any of the races over the road courses any day
they only new rules in the past that are good are the safer walls and the hans device
