Question: SAT Critical reading?
..i seriously need help. critical reading and i were never meant to be.
i’ve been working all summer and up until now going to SAT classes which are quite expensive and “garuntee big improvements” and my critical reading has not improved, if not went down.
i just can’t do it. i understand while reading normal books and articles and textbooks fine, but when i read SAT passages, even if its at home while im relaxed, i cannot understand it and absorb the information. i reread each sentence numerous times only resulting in me rereading the whole passage AGAIN because i don’t remember it. vocab isj ust..make or break because i forget them the day after i memorize them. the passages, it seems like any answer choice to the question can be right or wrong. sometimes there are full passages that i completely don’t understand and because of lack of time, i have no choice but to guess or omit all the questions for that passage. i’m at like a low 600 right now. that’s where i started beginning of summer. it’s been well over 3 months of tedious SAT study (and i mean tedious..5 days a week during the summer, 2 days a week once schools started)

you can see this is kind of a rant. it’s really irritating how critical reading has “clicked” to all of my other friends at one point, and i am just as clueless as i was months ago. help.
oh and i’m currently in AP literature at the moment. i’ve always gotten straight A’s and have (or in) 7 weighted classes during soph/junior year.

this test prep place might be giving you practice tests that are harder. On the actual SATs, vocab and reading passage questions usually have answers that jump straight out at you because they are very general or stated nearly word for word in the passage.
Also, I know how you feel about the english classes; SATs don’t have anything to do with the analysis you’re probably doing in school

Question: Who agrees with me that Obama is not sharing specifics on why he wants a Democrat Senate?

http://www.mail-archive.com/libertarianexchange@yahoogroups.com/msg01314.html

These are HIS OWN WORDS. Note that if you read between the lines, you see that with either him or Hillary, we will get Supreme Court Justices that create law based on their own view of international law. This is how we get decisions like Kelo versus New London (Connecticut) where a local government can confiscate private homes/land for developers, not just for “access” or “improvement” but (now) for increasing the “tax base”. Free markets only work with the separation of powers delineated in the Constitution; that is, the separation of powers between the executive, judicial, and legislative branches (e.g. the legislature creates law, not the judiciary); and all rights/powers not specifically mentioned in the Constitution are left to the States and the People, respectively.

We may be left with a country we do not recognize.

Question: Diaper rash from using Pampers with Dry Max?…or something else?
My 9 month old daughter has a rash that only seems to have been brought on by her Swaddlers with Dry Max. We’ve been using the regular Swaddlers since birth with no troubles. Then at 6 months we switched to cloth in the day, Old Swaddlers at night. We were 1/4 of the way through a pack of the new Swaddlers with Dry Max before I noticed a rash one morning last week. I didn’t connect it though, and cut out using the cloth diapers because I wanted to use zinc cream on her bum and creams pretty much destroy cloth diapers.

That’s when I noticed the rash went from so-so to horrible in less than an afternoon. She couldn’t lay down on her back, let alone sit on her bum. She screamed in the bath in pain, and hyperventilated during diaper changes.

I put her in some old school Baby Dry, and it began to make a difference. Although the skin was still broken in some spots on her bum, it didn’t look as red anymore. But the next time I took her to the sitters, I forgot I only had Swaddlers with Dry Max at her house. The sitter said she was fine in the morning when I dropped her off, but as the day went on the rash got worse and worse. She changes her diaper ever 2 hours or sooner if it’s needed, so it’s not that she’s sitting in a dirty diaper for hours. I put her back in the Baby Dry when we got home and almost 24 hours later, she’s back to the “getting better, lots of improvement” stage.

In knowing all of this, it’s also worth mentioning that she cut her 5th and 6th teeth (although she’s never had diaper issues with teething before), and she just finished a round of antibiotics. But the fact that she gets better in one type of diaper and worse with another *really* makes me suspect the diapers over anything else. And nothing has changed in her diet.

What do you think caused it? Also, do you think it’s worth a trip to the doctor, even if it’s gotten better? (I live in Canada so a trip to the doctor doesn’t cost us, and there is a long holiday weekend coming up). And is it even worth my time to bother calling Pampers? I’ve heard they’re very rude and accusing when you call them.
Oh, she actually has a patch of open sores on her bum from this. And I wash her bum often in cool water, and always after a BM.

I’d take her to the doctor…there was a report not long ago that the Dry Max from Pampers is causing chemical burns (not just a rash) on babies yet Pampers is refusing to pull them from the shelf saying it’s the parents and not their diapers…but it’s been countless reports of babies so it’s gotta be the diapers.

Question: As a parent – do I have any choices (No child left behind act)?
My very smart 3rd grade son brought home a letter from the school yesterday stating that his school didn’t meet the state minimum requirements for levels of education and because of that, the school was on “school improvement”. The letter continued by stating because the school is underperforming we have the right to request enrollment in another school within the district. It then went on to tell us that none of the schools in the district were at the state level so we couldn’t move him after all. The letter did say that the school had contact other districts to see if they were willing to accept transfers and of course none are.

Background information: He has attended this school since the middle of kindergarten and they are failing to meet his advanced academic needs. We have him involved with different educational programs outside of the school (chess club, science & math teams, etc). The school does not have advanced classes until sixth grade (he’s in third). We have had some behavior/social issues (IMO partly because he is bored). With this economy moving is not an option – yet.

I’m afraid third grade is going to turn him off of school if they don’t start to challenge him and I don’t know how much more I can do from a learning prospect at home. My question is do I have any other rights on behalf of my child to get him into a school that is at least meeting state minimums (without paying to put him in private school)?

Hi TK,
Well, what a deplorable situation! I don’t know your country of origin, however, irrespective of that, it should be possible to get the help you need.

My thinking about this is as follows:
1) Contact your local member of Parliament or Education Minister – do it in writing and keep a copy.
2) Send a copy of your letter (above) to your local/national newspapers.
3) Place and advertisement in the appropriate classified section of your community newspaper directed at parents in your community who may have similar problems. Depending on responses, you (collectively) might form an ‘action’ group – there is strength in unity and get your Education Minister to earn his salary.
4) Place a copy of your letter in your local library and ask for parent feedback.

Question: Why are the schools in your locality under-performing?
A) Lack of qualified teachers?
B) Lack of resources?
C) Too many students in each class?

Best wishes from Perth Australia.

Question: ahhahhahah this is a very funny doctor joke(slightly dirty)??what you think?
man comes to the doctor with a long history of migrane headaches. When the doctor does his history and physical, he discovers that his poor patient has had practically every therapy known to man for his migranes and STILL no improvement. “Listen,” says the doc. “I have migranes, too…and the advice I’m going to give you isn’t really anything I learned in medical school, but it’s advice that I’ve gotten from my own experience. When I have a migrane, I go home, get in a nice hot bathtub, and soak for a while. Then I have my wife sponge me off with the hottest water I can stand…especially around the forehead.
This helps a little. Then I get out of the tub, take her into the bedroom, and even if my head is killing me, I force myself to have sex…and almost always, the headache is immediately gone. Give it a try, and come back and see me in six weeks.”
Six weeks later, the patient returns with a big grin. “Doc! I took your advice and it works! It REALLY WORKS! I’ve had migranes for 17 years and this is the FIRST time anyone has ever helped me!”

“Well,” says the physician, “I’m glad I could help.”

“By the way, Doc,” the patient adds, “You have a really nice house.”

GIMME A STAR!!!if you liked this joke..

Question: When I upgraded to Internet Explorer 9 last week, I lost ALL my yahoo favorites. Can I recover them?
My yahoo home page appears different than it did before the Internet Explorer upgrade. But since I also recently “upgraded” my Yahoo page recently, I am not sure why my favorites went away, but it was just within the last few days.

I had my favorites neatly categorized so I could find them more easily. Some sites will be very difficult to find again.

It does not look like you can even categorize your favorites on the new yahoo page — Doesn’t look like an “improvement” to me.

I cannot find any way to contact Yahoo to ask them about this issue.
