LED lights not only appear to be cool, but also earth-friendly, power saving, and work longer than most of the bulbs on the market today. Be able to make angel eye rings for your Sports car headlights employing LED light bulbs.

Difficulty: Moderate. You’ll need to use a soldering gun, drill and a Dremel tool or other power tools for this task. Seek advice if this is the very first time you’re using these equipment.

Materials/Equipment: LED light bulbs (2x 3.6 v, 20mA), resistor (270 ohms), tiny blind rod (metal replacement rod), 24-gauge stranded wire, solder gun and solder, Draper tools with cut-off wheel attachment, drill and drill bit #150, pliers for cutting wires, reflective tape, clear tape/painter’s tape, aluminum foil, heat shrink tubing, jar cover (same diameter as the ring), scissors, 12 V adjusted power supply, oven.

Mold the Ring

First of all, assess the diameter of your car headlights. We’ll be using a 4-inch diameter band for this training course. After determining, get a miniature blind rod. One mini rod may make two rings. For a 4″ diameter lamp, the rod has to be 12.5″ long (use this formulation: Length = 3.14 multiplied by diameter). Include about 2 extra inches to have handles. Cut the rod using Makita tool with a cut-off steering wheel attachment.

To boost ring brightness, we need to make small cuts along the plane (back) side of the band. Most of these cuts will refract illumination toward the front side for greater range of vision. Use the Dremel equipment to make cuts 1.5 mm aside. Continue doing cuts until you connect with the other side of the cycle.

Drill the Hole

We’re now about to join the LED light bulbs. Drill a hole on each tip of the rod to match a LED light bulb inside. Use drill bit #150, and set to 6000 RPM. To avoid the rod from melting, take out the bit as you go to let it cool. Repeat the method until you get a LED light bulb-sized hole. The LED light bulb should firmly fit.

Take off the LED light bulb making the hole a little more clear by putting on a small amount of clear nail polish inside of the hole. This supplies more light to go through. Wait around for the polish to dry out before re-inserting the LED bulb. Try the bulb with a 12 V handled power supply.

To trap the LED light and make it visible even in daytime, use aluminum foil or even reflective tape. Enclose the foil around the uncut portion of the ring and shelter with heat shrink tubing. Heat the tubing set. Track down the ring on reflective tape and then cut out. Strip and then stick the tape at the back side of the ring.

Wire the LED lamps

Work with a resistor (270 ohms). Fasten with electrical wire the two LED light bulbs in a series connection by connecting the negative leg of one LED bulb securely to the positive leg of the other LED bulb. Tear off one end of a 24-gauge cable and enclose it around the negative leg of the first LED bulb. Solder into place using soldering gun. Peel off the other end of the same twine and wrap it around the positive terminal of the second LED. Solder straight to place.

Cut a second wire and place it all around the negative terminal of the next LED, and solder together. Bring the end of the second twine back to the other side of the ring. Tape the two electrical wires together on the opposite side of the ring with painter’s tape. Cut off the LED bulb terminal legs. Now you have a single positive and also single negative terminal on one side of the eye ring. Test it out by means of a power supply.
