i have found some neat looking rocks over the years and i was wondering if there was an online guide that has pictures with going appraisals? if not, where can i find out? thanks

Do you know what sort of rocks they are, e.g. oolitic limestone, basalt, granite, sodium plagioclase feldspar, gemstones? I think that is where you should start–Geology. Perhaps someone on this site in the Earth Sciences area can help you identify them if you post pictures. Once you know what they are, you will be able to seek a site for appraisals or for selling. I have found a lot of great rocks myself, and friends will give me rocks because they know I like them. Most of them are simply pretty or neat looking but have no real value.

How much would you have to buy to get started? Which vegetables are best suited. We love “Salsa” and go through quite a bit. Would this be a good choice for a beginner? Onions, peppers, tomatoes, perhaps garlic & cilantro? As much as we go through (that and pasta/pizza sauce), would this be a better idea. All help appreciated. We have a cool dark place for ample storage. Thanks for the good information. Yes we have a garden and eat healthy and as much as we want when it’s mature. Our neighbor has one as well and we trade surplus (or give it away). Beefsteak tomatoes are our favorite (and cherry). Is there a type for each that is best for canning? The initial cost will get you, but after that it is well worth the time and satisfaction.. A good pressure cooker , large to do up to 7 qts of something at a time is just under 100$. Jars , depending on the sizes you all get 50-70$ . Jar rings , reusable and lids, non reusable is minimal. Salsa is easy if you grow your own tomatoes and peppers etc…We didn t do salsa but many qts of paste and spag sauce.. We also can bean ( green and yellow. Now that is easy. Apple pie filling and chunky apple sause is also easy, we bought apples in season and from an orchard so they were cheap. Probably a wash on cost the 1 st year, but you gain so much the years after.. As a Home Remodel Company Owner, these are the two tricks I have used to getting tubs to look new again. On a minimally stained tub, I use Mr Clean erasers with Soft Scrub or Comet(both will work). Be sure to wear gloves, as Soft Scrub and Comet is pretty brutal on your skin. (works great) For getting out more stubborn deep stains on porcelain tubs, and to get them to look new again… Place paper towels in tub covering the entire tub and side walls. Take Bleach and soak all paper towels thoroughly. Open window of bathroom and close bathroom door for 3 hours (let it sit no more than 3 hours). Return with gloves on hands and pick up all paper towels and throw out Rinse tub down with water.

Your Question I have a pond in my back yard and fear that we may have some snakes visiting our yard this summer! Is there a safe chemical or some type of product out there to detour snakes? The pond is already filled and is in the middle of the newly developed subdivison. There are about 15 houses who’s backyards ring around the pond including ours. We are going to put up wood fencing along the sides of the yard with a small iron fence facing the lake (subdivision requires iron fences with a lake view.)

There is no real way to keep the snakes away. If they are only water snakes, I honestly would just keep them there and invite them to stay near the water. Water snakes do a lot to keep pond and lake wildlife populations in check and balanced. So do copperheads, but if there are kids in the area I would do what I can do keep copperheads out of the area. A lot of times when you are dealing with water, using chemicals to keep one pest out will also hurt other wildlife or plants in the area. Water vegetation and water wildlife are often very prone to harm from chemical usage. Another idea you could try is to get some nesting plans for ospreys and small hawks, and build those to attract those birds. Ospreys will eat snakes if given the opportunity and there are many hawks which prey on snakes. So you can give that a try. Word of caution though, ospreys will do a good job at getting rid of your fish populations, so don’t build too many nesting platforms or boxes. If you want this to work, I strongly recommend making sure you don’t upset the other parts of the pond’s ecosystem. Snakes are always good to have in an area, they eat bugs and other nasty things which can make your afternoons in the back yard a misery. But do try and keep copperheads out of the area, because they are poisonous but not enough to do severe harm if bitten.
